Vidiwave Delivers The Largest Rail CCTV Contract Ever Awarded

Vidiwave announced this month that it has completed a contract to supply 1,700 systems to the largest railway operator in South Africa over the last 12 months. The contract was successfully awarded to Vidiwave’s South African partner, bidding against 50 of the world’s largest mobile CCTV providers and is currently the largest single mobile rail CCTV contract ever awarded.

Vidiwave was the only fully compliant bidder to the necessary European rail standards (EN50155 and 50121) and the client’s technical and operational requirements.

The systems are fitted in one of the world’s harshest operational environments, where the climate conditions mean that the temperatures can range from extreme cold to extreme heat in any 24 hour period. The system is a waterproof fan-less solution, with zero dust ingress and features real-time recording of video, audio and GPS tracking.

The system is designed to provide an upgrade path for the addition of Vidiwave’s full remote management package, providing the operator with video / GPS and vehicle diagnostics via a secure VPN link using 3G and wireless LAN networking technology. The power of this upgradeable feature was fundamental in the final award of the contract.

The systems have been delivered to the South African operator as Phase 1 of a government roll-out program, which included a seven-month R&D program of additional technology developed by Vidiwave for the client – specific to future roll-out phases of the program.

Vidiwave is now working with their SA partner and the rail operator to develop the subsequent roll out phases over the coming five years. Vidiwave’s products and network technologies now form the base requirement for all their future group mobile CCTV and GPS focused roll out programs.

Vidiwave CEO, David Grattan, said “We are particularly pleased with the successful completion of this initial contract, the requirements of which play to all of Vidiwave’s strengths of high definition video, audio, GPS tracking and remote management.”
